This morning I was checking out the few Zippo lighters I have. 10 in total. Wouldn’t call it a collection, but considering I have never smoked a cigarette, it’s the beginning of one I guess. I like them, they are nice objects from a mechanical standpoint, I like what they represent as icons, and the few ones I have all mean something special to me, and can be related to people, a place or a time I can still remember very vividly.
Anyways, I was looking up the official Zippo.com site and a few affiliated web sites, as well as random search hits on the Internet when I didn’t find some of my older models in the 2006/2207 official Zippo catalogs, and I found some pretty serious collections out there. Some are just plain impressive. I ended up spending over an hour reading some Zippo history and looking at online collections.
Here are some of the photos I could find of some of the lighters I own. Not much, but as I said, they mean much to me.
– The Regular Venetian, high polish chrome finish: the first Zippo I bought, in Nîmes, France. This is a Jan-91 model.
– The Pure Antique Brass model, a gift from my mother. This is an Aug-98 model.
– The Irish Claddagh ring of love, friendship and happiness. I bought it in Dublin, Ireland. It is also a high polish chrome finish and was manufactured in Aug-97.
– The Harley Davidson Rules brushed brass finish. I bought it in WA, USA. I just like Harleys, and maybe I’ll own a HD bike one of those days. In the meantime, I buy some HD Zippo lighters.
